Wildcat Golf Regional Bound
Just days after capturing the CCAA Golf Championship at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, the Chico State men's golf team has been installed as the number two seed in the West/South Central Regional also at Spanos Park.
The Wildcats enter as one of the hottest teams as they look to punch their ticket to the National Championship in late May.
No Margin for Error as Chico State Chases Post-season Berth
The Chico State Baseball heads to the Bay Area this week with not a lot of wiggle room as they look for a berth in the CCAA Championship Tournament. Chico State trails San Bernardino by 2-and-a-half games with four games left to play. The 23-23 Wildcats need to pick up three games on the Coyotes in the four game series.
The scenarios look like this: Chico will advance to the tournament if they sweep East Bay and Dominguez Hills takes 3-of-4 from San Bernardino. The Wildcats will also advance if they take 3-of-4 from East Bay and Dominguez Hills sweeps San Bernardino.
Chico enters the final weekend of baseball with a 23-23 record and ironically is considered one of the best teams in the West Region. Chico was ranked in the first NCAA West Region ranking and could possibly improve on their standing with a weekend split against 10th ranked Monterey Bay. Helping Chico is the best strength of schedule in the region. Even if Chico fails to make the CCAA Conference Tournament could they still get in the West Regional ??? It would be unprecedented but based on so many teams struggling this season, and the nature of the criteria, it's not out of the realm of possibility. A berth in the CCAA Tournament strengthens Chico's standing significantly for an NCAA Tournament berth.
