DIVISION II & III HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
CHAMPIONSHIPS HIGHLIGHT A BUSY SATURDAY
After a 1-9 season the Chico High Panther Football team is now one win away from an improbably Division II North Section Championship as they host the Foothill Cougars on Saturday night.
Chico beat Foothill on Halloween night 7-6. Foothill held a 6-0 lead late in the 4th quarter but a botched punt was recovered by Chico with under four minutes to go and the Panthers would punch it in with just over two minutes left. After converting the extra point Chico would hold on for the win. It's that victory that is allowing the Panthers to host this Division II title game at home.
Game time is set for 7pm at the Chico High Stadium.
It's been a magical season for the Gridley Bulldogs. But, to punch their ticket to a Division III Section Title they will need to beat a team and program that has been the class of Division III for several years running. The Orland Trojans are looking for their second straight section title and bring a 10-2 record to the championship game. A hallmark of the Trojan program is taking a step up in class during the preseason to prepare them for games in late November. Gridley beat Orland on October 10th 29-26. This game should be a thriller. Kick-off at 7pm.
The Chico State men's basketball team is looking to turn the page after a sub-par performance against Simpson University on Wednesday. Chico gave up 76 points to the Redhawks on 53 percent shooting while only shooting 30 percent in their 76-60 loss. With the loss Chico falls to 1-2 with this being their final tune-up before CCAA play begins next Thursday.
