COVID-19 WIPES OUT ENTIRE YEAR OF CHICO STATE ATHLETIC COMPETITION
Next possible Chico State sporting event could be in August of 2021
It was the news nobody wanted to hear. University President's in the California Collegiate Athletic Association voted to not move forward with athletic competition for the 2020-2021 season.
The move was not entirely unexpected but is disappointing nontheless as numerous student athletes at a dozen institutions hung on for a chance to participate during the fall and spring seasons. For many of the seniors it means their athletic careers are over and the next chapter in their lives is here.
The CCAA is one of the largest Division II conferences in the country and this move will resonate across the athletic spectrum. The decision means the highly touted programs at Chico State will go roughly a year-and-a-half without playing sports. It also ends the careers of several exciting student athletes who provided such excitement before their seasons were abruptly ended with the Coronavirus pandemic.....
