Chico State Men and Women Reach 20-win plateau with wins over Humboldt.....

Chico State Men's and Women's Basketball knocks off Humboldt

in regular season finale

CHICO WOMEN CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH DOMINANT 2ND HALF

With wins on Thursday night both the Chico State men's and women's basketball teams reached 20 wins on the season. For the women it is the first time since 2012-2013 they have surpassed the 20-win mark. Chico clamped down defensively to stymie the Lumberjacks in a 77-59 win.

Jordan Allred led five Cats in double figures with 14 points and 7 boards. Crescent City native Jadence Clifton played in front of several friends and family and scored 12 points, pulled 7 boards and had three steals.

Chico outscored Humboldt 42-21 in the second to win the game going away.

Chico will now wait on their next opponent as they have earned a first round bye in the CCAA Tournament next week in San Bernardino. Chico will play the winner of Pomona and Sonoma and 12 noon on Friday afternoon. KpaySports will have the broadcast at 11:45 next Friday from Cousoullis Arena in Southern California.

CHICO STATE MEN HOLD OFF HUMBOLDT WRAPPING UP REGULAR SEASON

The Chico State Wildcat men survived an early 2nd half push by Humboldt to register an 84-77 win over Humboldt. Chico's Evan Oliver led five Cats in double figures with 15 as Chico shot 55 percent for the game in holding off the Jacks.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 31-17 lead mid-way through the 1st half only to see Humboldt go on an 11-nothing run to whittle the lead down to three. Chico would again grab control of the game and was up 55-45 with just under 14 minutes to go but Humboldt would counter with a 13-2 run to grab a 58-57 lead with just under 11 minutes to go. But, Chico would grab control of the game on the defensive end and ease their way to the win.

Chico will now play Cal State East Bay in the first round of the CCAA Basketball Tournament in San Bernardino. Chico play on Thursday night at 8pm. Our pregame will come your way at 7:45pm on KpaySports 1290 & 102.9 FM. Chico swept the season series from East Bay this year but the Pioneers pose some unique challenges with their punishing interior game and quick guards on the perimeter. The game will have NCAA Tournament implications as both teams (Chico 6th and East Bay 8th) are in the mix to get into the Division II version of March Madness in two weeks.
