Report: Panik Not Offered in Stanton Talks

By Chandler Guadagjnin

Last week, it was reported that the Giants official offer for the Marlin’s Giancarlo Stanton included RHP Tyler Beede, OF Chris Shaw and 2B Joe Panik.

Now,another report from veteran MLB reporter, Bob Nightingale, has surfaced. It states that when the Giants’ front office heard the report they were “guffawed”. Instead Nightingale said that ” fringe-type guys” were most likely offered. Yet just another chapter in the thriller that is the ‘Stanton Sweepstakes’.

The market has seemingly narrowed to the Giants and Cardinals.

Giants Finish Season With Crucial Series VS Dodgers

By Chandler Guadagnin

With three games left in the regular season, the Giants take on the Dodgers in possibly the most crucial series of the year. The Giants currently sit one game behind the New York Mets for the top Wild Card spot and one game clear of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card slot with a magic number of two. Any number of Giants wins and/or Cardinals losses amounting to two will punch the Giants ticket to the Wild Card Game.

In game one of this final trio of games, San Francisco will send Madison Bumgarner to the mound to face off against the Dodgers’ Rich Hill. Game two will feature Clayton Kershaw and a pitcher yet to be named. The final game of the year will matchup Dodger hurler Kenta Maeda with a not yet specified Giants pitcher.

The New York Mets will conclude their season on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. St. Louis finishes their season at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Breaking Down A Possible Three Way NL Wild Card Tie

By Chandler Guadagnin

With the NL Wild Card Game scheduled for October 5, the San Francisco Giants are currently in a three way tie, with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets, for two Wild Card spots.

To resolve this issue, the Mets and Cardinals would play on October 3 to determine the first Wild Card team. The loser of the Mets-Cardinals game would head to San Francisco to play the Giants on October 4 to determine the second Wild Card slot.

The winner of the Mets-Cardinals game would host the winner of the October 4 game in the NL Wild Card game.

A tie for the Wild Card game has never occurred since its inception in 2012.

Giants Look Ahead To Big Cardinals Series

By Chandler Guadagnin

After being swept at home in a three game series at the hands of the San Diego Padres, the Giants turn their attention to their next opponent, the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals, who trail the Giants by a half game in the National League Wild Card race, come to San Francisco for a four game series against the Giants.

San Francisco, who is now 5 and 9 in the month of September and 21 and 36 since the All-Star Break, look to turn around their dismal second-half of the season. The Giants have an abhorrent post-All Star batting average of .250. Some keys to the series are:

  • Wake up the bats
  • Work the count
  • Bullpen must stand strong

In a series that is so key for both teams, here are the probable pitching matchups for the series:

Cueto (15-5) 2.90 ERA vs Wainwright (11-8) 4.45 ERA

Moore (10-11) 4.08 ERA vs Weaver (1-2) 3.48 ERA

Samardzija (11-10) 4.07 ERA vs Leake (9-10) 4.60 ERA

Suarez (3-3) 4.20 ERA vs Garcia (10-12) 4.65 ERA

Following the loss to the Padres, the Giants stand 5 games out of first place in the NL West and are in first place in the NL Wild Card, with a 0.5 game lead over the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals for the first spot.
