The Chico State Wildcat men and UC San Diego men’s basketball teams have been on a collision course for several weeks, tonight they meet for the only time during the regular season in a match-up that could determine the regular season champion in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
UCSD comes in at 18-3 overall and (13-2) in the CCAA, while the Cats are also 18-3 overall and (12-2) in CCAA play. Both squads are three games clear of their closest pursuers which means the winner of tonight’s match-up at Rimac Arena has a leg up for the regular season conference title.
Chico keys tonight hinge on their ability to defend the potent multi-faceted attack of the Tritons. Senior Drew Dyer is having a great year hitting 51 percent of his three’s and he has made 65 treys on the year. The Tritons have had contributions up and down their roster after losing two starters to injury during the year.
The Wildcats have a starting five that all average in double figures. The defending CCAA Player of the Week Robert Duncan leads the way averaging 15 points and better than 6 boards a game.
Its’ the only time they will meet during the regular season, but with a conference tournament and a possible West Regional in the offing, it may not be the last time the Wildcats and Tritons tangle.
Its an early serving of March Madness on February 12th…..
